Spunked on a 35-37 year old

Re: Games leading up to the beginning of the transfer window
Varys is 35.

He’s got a year and a half left on his contract I believe, so I’m assuming Leicester would expect £10m minimum.

With a year and a half left on his deal, I doubt he’d accept anything less than an extra year on that.

He won’t come on less wages than he in right now either. He’s currently on about £150k a week that’s £7.8m a year.

That would mean about £20m in wages and at least £10m transfer.

£30m is far too much to be

Re: Games leading up to the beginning of the transfer window
Why?

You only want a young expensive player that will take time to adapt and/or cost a fortune?

Pee Wee 9:46 Mon Dec 6
Re: Games leading up to the beginning of the transfer window
Exactly the kind of signing we should be avoiding.

Pee Wee

No it’s not, nothing stupid about it.

Gets us through the rest of the season, he’s experienced in the Prem, is fast as fuck still, can still score a goal and won’t cost a fortune….

Plus he would suit our style of play.

Stupid idea

No offence

Vardy’s contract expires in 2022, he’ll be 35.

Nutsin 8:21 Mon Dec 6
Re: Games leading up to the beginning of the transfer window
Is Vardy even available?

If he is I’d like to see him at West Ham. He’d bring experience and tempered expectations because of his age, he wouldn’t be so upset at being a super sub or a rotational player when Antonio needs a rest.

Lingard, Vardy and Bowen on the counter attack is sexy!
Would be great to watch for a couple of years at least. Wouldn’t cost a fortune either.

Like to see Krall and vlasic a bit more, but being greedy CB LB and striker would be nice!

Re: Games leading up to the beginning of the transfer window
Think we'll sign Phillips from Liverpool if we don't get Tarkowski.

Problem with signing another striker was we should have been looking for someone who could share the games with Antonio and maybe eventually take over as the main man seeing as Antonio is well into his thirties, not just a back up. There was always going to be plenty of opportunities to play for another striker this season.
Many in the summer were claiming it was impossible to sign a decent striker who'd be happy as back up. Said all along what we needed was an equal not a back up.
Okay you're not going to find another Antonio easily, but another striker would also allow us to change formation and tactics when needed, or even play both giving us more options and another dynamic out wide, and a stronger squad.

Can't speak for Moyes on this but he doesn't have a good record on signing strikers and seems very cautious and inflexible in this area. Seems like he will never change the system as it's so ingrained now, and will continue to look for a like for like.
Will be interesting to see if and who he does sign?
If we sign Lingard he probably won't bother signing a striker this window again.

Your post isn't clear because you've listed a load of strikers better than Antonio, leaving people to think the list of strikers you've not listed are the ones you think Antonio is better than.

Re: Games leading up to the beginning of the transfer window
Haha, there is about 5 on that list that could even be considered a debate. The rest, there is no question over.

Of the 5, I reckon I'd side with the other 3 and 2 I would give the benefit of doubt to Antonio.

I'd still have him in the team, just out wide.

I do hope you aren't suggesting Antonio is a more clinical finisher than Vardy there?

Re: Games leading up to the beginning of the transfer window
Ill take out Watkins i like him.....Auba is shite at the moment and many of the rest are out of form. Lukaku fucked up a 1 v 1 chance on sat and looked miles off it. Jesus cant get in the city team despite being their only striker.

See his 1v1 the other week for the reggae boys? or his goal at Leeds? or his one on the opening day at Newcastle?

He has got better at finishing, he is just out of form.....with no int break for a while hopefully he gets back to his best next 6 games or so

Re: Games leading up to the beginning of the transfer window
Ok lets go with at the moment...

Jesus
Auba
Watkins
Benteke
Bamford
Broja
King
Wood
Pukki

Maybe even Jiminez and Lukaku at the moment

But even if he isnt that good at 1 v 1 so what? the blokes goalscoring record since the pandemics has been very very good......and he has become our record prem goalscorer. Some on here make him sound worse than CFC

Eddie Nketiah is a big possibility in January.

Find me a first choice striker in the Premier League who you think would have less chance of scoring a 1 on 1 than Antonio.

I'll list them in order of their teams PL position.

Jesus
Jota
Lukaku
Kane
Ronaldo
Aubameyang
Jiminez
Maupay
Watkins
Vardy
Toney
Benteke
Bamford
Broja
Calvert Lewin
King
Wood
Wilson
Pukki

Some of those, even the lower teams have a better second and third choice too.
